Top 5 Things to Watch
Sunday, June 14, 2026 5:03AM CDT

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of June 14. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release times are Central Daylight Time unless otherwise noted.

1. Sign up for cattle webinar: Join DTN for our inaugural Beef Industry Exchange webinar hosted by Senior Livestock Editor Jennifer Carrico on June 24 at 9 a.m. This free webinar will include summer and fall weather outlook, ways to effectively rebuild the cow herd, and a cattle market update during high prices and high risk. Register here: https://dtn.link/…

And for more DTN coverage of the New World screwworm threat and the response by the government and livestock industry, visit our special DTN Spotlight on New World Screwworm page at https://www.dtnpf.com/…

2. New Fed Chair's perspective: This week Tuesday and Wednesday we have the first Federal Open Markets Committee meeting under chairmanship of Kevin Warsh. Fed watchers note he was hand-picked by President Donald Trump to usher in lower interest rates, but there are a lot of economic headwinds that body's governors need to consider, with rising inflation being a key reason for perhaps higher, not lower, rates. We'll know more late week. For additional thoughts on the challenges ahead for Warsh, see DTN Editor Emeritus Urban Lehner's take here: https://www.dtnpf.com/…

3. Shortened markets week: Commodity and equity markets will be closed Friday for the national Juneteenth holiday. The U.S. markets will pick back up Monday, we'll have our usual before-trade updates Sunday evening and early Monday morning. June 19 is recognized as the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom. Note that DTN will continue to report on Canada's markets that are open that day.

4. Cooler weather reigns: The past several weeks saw heavy rains across the Midwest, with the moisture and warm weather creating intense humidity which then leads to severe weather. This week we'll see lower temperatures over much of the country, and while rain will continue to pop up, the lower heat lessens the chance of severe storms.

5.Reports due this week: Monday at 8:15 a.m., Industrial Production and Capacity Utilization. At 10 a.m., Grain Inspections. At 2 p.m., Turkey Hatchery. At 3 p.m., USDA NASS weekly Crop Progress including DTN analysis. Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. we'll see the latest Import Price Index, Housing Starts and Building Permits numbers. Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., U.S. Retail Sales data. At 9 a.m., Pending Home Sales, Home Builder Confidence Index and Business Inventories reports. At 9:30 a.m., EIA weekly petroleum status report, including ethanol production and inventory. At 1 p.m. FOMC interest rate decision and at 1:30 p.m., new Fed Chairman press conference. At 2 p.m., Broiler Hatchery. Thursday at 7:30 a.m., Grain Export Sales, Initial Jobless Claims and Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Survey. At 10:30 a.m., Weekly Economic Index. At 2 p.m., Cattle on Feed and Slaughter Weekly. Friday, no U.S. economic reports scheduled as it is the Juneteenth holiday. The CFTC's Commitment of Traders report will be delayed until the week of June 26.
